Getting to Know: Rachel

Rachel grew up originally in the inner city of Detroit. In 1967,during the Detroit Riots, when Rachel was 11, she and her family spent a year of Caribbean island living of Puerto Rico. It wasn't living in Puerto Rico that helped Rachel see diversity of cultures and ways of life. Once the Riots had been cleared and it was safe to return to the Metro Detroit area, her family moved to the suburbs of Lincoln Park, MI.

Living in the city, suburbs and on a Caribbean island as a whole made Rachel see the diversity of culture and people. Much of Rachel's artwork of drawings and watercolors are abstract coming from her imagination which is fueled by the many experiences of growing up.

You can find Rachel hunched over her work, scribbling and drawing with markers and paint brushes, madly going over her work; trying to answer the question of an Artists’ life: "Am I done? Did I get it all right? Can I put down my instrument of creativity now?” For many Artists this question is never answered with a solid “Yes”.
